2026 Templer Lecture/Dinner
Wednesday 18th November 2026
SAHR members are cordially invited to the 2026 Templer Lecture and Dinner, which will take place on Wednesday 18 November at the Army & Navy Club, 36-39 Pall Mall, London SW1Y 5JN (a short walk from Green Park and Piccadilly Circus tube stations).
The dress code for the Army and Navy Club is business dress/jacket and tie, or equivalent.
Members can choose to attend one or more of the following events:
6.00pm: The Templer Lecture
Dr David Grummitt, the winner of the 2026 SAHR Templer Medal for the book that has made the most significant contribution to the history of the British Army, will speak on The Wars of the Roses: War and Martial Culture in England, 1455-1487.
Entrance to the Lecture is FREE for SAHR members plus one guest each - but please register so that we can arrange smooth entry into the Club for you. A cash bar will be open from 5:30pm for members to purchase drinks. SAHR ties and badges will also be available for purchase before and after the lecture.
7.15pm The Templer Dinner
For those who wish to stay for the Templer Dinner, this will take place after the lecture at approximately 7:15pm. The Dinner, which is subsidised from SAHR funds, is always a highlight of the SAHR calendar year and promises to be a convivial and enjoyable evening. The ticket price includes a three-course dinner with wine, followed by tea and coffee, as follows:
Starter: Prawn, Salmon and Dill Tian with Avocado Mayonnaise, Lemon Oil and Brown Sourdough
Main course: Supreme of Cotswold White Chicken with Celeriac and Sage Mash, Broccoli, Carrots and Mushroom Cream
Dessert: Warm Sticky Toffee Pudding with Caramel Sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream
The dinner will conclude at approximately 10pm, with the option of relocating to the Army and Navy bar afterwards.
Registration
Space in the lecture room and dining room is finite, so we need to advise the club of numbers in advance and places will be allocated on a first come, first served, basis. Please therefore book in by Friday 7 November at the latest.
You must hold an active membership of the Society for Army Historical Research to purchase a ticket, which you can do here.
To request a vegetarian option or notify us of your dietary requirements, or for any other matters concerning the Templer Evening, please email events@sahr.co.uk
