The 5/60th were the first rifle battalion in the British Army and fought throughout the Peninsular War, one of only three units present from the landings in 1808 through to victory in France in 1814. Author Robert Griffith will tell the story of their service in that long campaign by discussing some of the extraordinary and distinctly roguish characters he discovered while researching his book Riflemen. You will hear tales of looting, murder and treachery, but also steadfastness, loyalty and heroism.

Robert Griffith's passion has always been history, especially the Napoleonic period. He grew up reading C.S Forester, Dudley Pope, Bernard Cornwell and George MacDonald-Fraser. After writing his own historical fiction series set in the Napoleonic Wars he has now branched out into non-fiction with Riflemen: A History of the 5th Battalion 60th (Royal American) Regiment, published by Helion & Company. Rob is currently writing his second book for Helion covering the battles of Arroyomolinos and Almaraz.
