SAHR Student Essay Prize winners announced

The Society for Army Historical Research is very pleased to announce the results of the 2020 student essay contest. The judges were gratified by the range and quality of submissions from students at schools and universities across the UK and all over the globe. All prize winners will receive cash prizes and a year's membership in the Society. The winning essays can be read by clicking on the PDF links below.

Schools competition

First Prize, to receive £300: Vivekaditya Sapru (University of Toronto Schools, Canada) 'Terror in the Tropics: An Analysis of the British Army’s Counter-insurgency Success in Malaya, 1948-1960'

Runner-Up, to receive £100: William Crane (Oundle School, UK) 'Vietnam’s forgotten war: Operation Masterdom, the British occupation of Vietnam 1945-46

 

Undergraduate competition

First Prize, to receive £300: Oliver Zwirtz (Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Göttingen, Germany) 'The British strategy in the American Revolutionary War during the command of General William Howe'

Runner-Up, to receive £100: Zeb Micic (University of St Andrews, UK) 'Recognising service in Wellington’s Army'
