SAHR Book Prize Results Announced

Wednesday 22nd April 2020

The 2020 SAHR Annual Members' Meeting, previously scheduled  for 22 April, has regrettably been cancelled due to the ongoing public health crisis. However, the Society is pleased to announce the results of the 2019 Templer Medal and Best First Book Prize.

For the 2019 competition we received 63 entries spanning the sixteenth to the twenty first centuries from 24 publishers on 4 continents. If it is possible to do so, we hope to present the medal, goblets and cheques to the winners and runners up at a ceremony in London later this year.

The results for the SAHR Templer Medal are as follows:

Winner: Jonathan Fennell with Fighting the People's War: The British & Commonwealth Armies and the Second World War (CUP)
Runner-up (Second Place): James Holland with Normandy '44: D-Day and the Battle for France (Bantam)
Commended (Third Place): Matthew Hughes with Britain's Pacification of Palestine: The British Army, the Colonial State and the Arab Revolt 1936-9 (CUP)

The results for the SAHR Templer Best First Book Prize are as follows:

Winner: Frances Houghton with The Veterans' Tale: British Military Memoirs of the Second World War (CUP)
Runner-up (Second Place): William Heap with Elizabeth's French Wars 1562-98 (Unicorn)
Commended (Third Place): Tom Greenshields with Those Bloody Kilts: The Highland Soldier in the Great War (Helion)
