2021 Annual Members' Meeting

Wednesday 2nd June 2021

Continued public health restrictions made it impossible for the Society to hold its customary Annual Members' Meeting for the second year in a row. However, the decision-making element of this yearly event - the Annual General Meeting - took place virtually tonight at 7:00 pm UK time on 2 June 2021 via Zoom.

The Chairman, Maj-Gen. Ewan Carmichael, extended a warm welcome to those all participating. He thanked Council and the Centenary Sub-committee for its hard work during a particularly difficult year due to the pandemic. He made special mention of the contributions of Rupert Hague-Holmes for assistance with social media and Dudley Giles for technical assistance with the Centenary broadcasts.

The Chairman proposed that as an exceptional measure the Constitution be amended for the year 2021-2022 only to suspend Paragraph 6b requiring members of Council to retire after completing five year's service. A second associated vote to allow the present Council to continue to operate was accepted unanimously.

The membership also assented to a shortening of the grace period for subscription payments and an increase in overseas subscription fees due to significant recent hikes in postal charges.

The reports of the Honorary Officers and the accounts for 2020, as well as the minutes of the last annual general meeting in 2019, were unanimously approved.

The Hon. Editor requested that votes of thanks, taken informally, be offered both to the Contributors to the Journal and to Henry Ling, our printers, for their uninterrupted work throughout the pandemic. Both suggestions were received with acclamation.

The Chairman praised those elements of the Centenary programme that had already taken place and looked forward to the conference day and Templer Medal reception on 22nd September to which our Patron had been invited. He advised that adjustments to the programme may have to be made in the light of the public health restrictions, but a dinner would be held if possible.

The Society's 94th AGM will be held in April of 2022.
