SAHR Templer Medal and Chapple Prize shortlist announced

The judging panel for the SAHR Templer Medal, and the associated Chapple Prize, have released a short list of titles eligible for the 2023 awards.
The panel has set the short list according to the criteria set, namely, whether the book is primarily about the British army and associated forces; whether it made a significant contribution to knowledge, broached new questions, or re-examined older questions in an original way; whether it was accurate and thoroughly researched with full bibliography and referencing; whether the argument was clear and supported; whether it was well written and comprehensible to a well-informed reader of military history; and whether it was so controversial as to unduly threaten the reputation and role of the society.
All eight titles are eligible for the Templer Medal. Those marked with an asterisk are eligible for the Chapple Prize for best first book.
The winners will be announced at the SAHR's Annual General Meeting in April. The SAHR gratefully acknowledges the support of the National Army Museum, which generously co-sponsors the book prizes.
