SAHR Fellowships awarded for 2024

The SAHR Council is pleased to announce the second cohort of Fellows of the Society for Army Historical Research. The fellowship scheme recognises service to the Society and distinguished research into the history of the Land Forces of the Crown. The recipients will be awarded their certificates at the Society's annual general meeting in April 2024.
Professor David French, in recognition of a lifetime’s contribution to the history of the land forces of the Crown.
Major General Ewan Carmichael, for services to the Society as Chair during an extremely challenging period, 2019-2022.
René Chartrand, in recognition of distinguished contributions to the military history of Canada and to the Journal of the Society.
Dr Aimée Fox, in recognition of distinguished contributions to the study of the British Army in the twentieth century.
Professor Andrew Hopper, in recognition of the work entailed in masterminding the Civil War Petitions project as an online resource.
Brigadier Justin Maciejewski, in recognition of the rejuvenation of the National Army Museum and his consistent support of the Society and its activities.
Lieutenant General Sir Simon Mayall, in recognition of distinguished contributions to modern strategic thought and support for the military museum sector.
Dr Eamonn O’Keeffe, in recognition of distinguished contributions to the history of the British Army in the Napoleonic era and to the study of military music.
Dr Christopher Phillips, in recognition of distinguished contributions to the study of military logistics.
Lieutenant General Sir Barney White-Spunner, for services to the Society as President, 2012-2024.
Professor Hopper and Brigadier Maciejewski have both asked that it be made clear that they see their awards as reflecting not just their own achievements but those of the teams who have worked under them in their respective roles, which we are happy to acknowledge.
