Synopsis
This paper will outline the land-based logistics and supply systems of the armies during the British Civil Wars. Both civilian and military source material have been utilised to reconstruct how the military logistics and supply systems of the period functioned and what methods were used to supply the armies of the period. The study outlines regional disparity in military logistics systems due to reliance on pre-existing civilian structures and methods—which had not been developed with a military purpose in mind, and how these structures were adapted to military needs. The reliance of which the military had on pre-existing civilian infrastructure will be demonstrated, along with how this use varied across the different conflicts and the importance of military and civilian interactions for effective supply during the British Civil Wars.
Speaker Biography
Dr Glenn W. Price is a professional researcher and analyst with a lifelong passion for history, particularly military and political history, wargaming, and writing. Entering academia as a mature student he successfully achieved a BA in both History and International Relations, an MRes in Medieval Military and Political History, and has subsequently been awarded a doctorate in history for his research on the military logistics and supply systems of the British Civil Wars.
