SAHR Templer Medal Shortlist Announced

The Society is pleased to announce the shortlist for the 2022 Templer Medal and the associated Best First Book Prize. The judges received an impressive number of entries: forty-four books from twenty-two publishers on three continents.
For the Templer Medal, the following works have been shortlisted by the judges:
British Military Panoramas: Battle in The Round, 1800-1914 by Ian Beckett (Helion)
1945: Victory in the West by Peter Caddick-Adams (Hutchinson-Heinemann)
Lifesavers and Body Snatchers: Medical Care and the Struggle for Survival in the Great War by Tim Cook (Penguin Canada)
Storm and Sack: British Sieges, Violence and the Laws of War in the Napoleonic Era, 1799–1815 by Gavin Daly (Cambridge University Press)
The Wandering Army: The Campaigns that Transformed the British Way of War by Huw Davies (Yale University Press)
Conquer We Must: A Military History of Britain, 1914-1945 by Robin Prior (Yale University Press)
For the Best First Book Prize, the following works have been shortlisted:
Ham & Jam: 6th Airborne Division in Normandy - Generating Combat Effectiveness by Andrew Wheale (Helion)
The Company's Sword: The East India Company and the Politics of Militarism, 1644–1858 by Christina Welsch (Cambridge University Press)
Who Owned Waterloo? Battle, Memory, & Myth in British History, 1815-1852 by Luke Reynolds (Oxford University Press)
No Bad Soldiers: 119 Infantry Brigade and Brigadier-General Frank Percy Crozier in the Great War by Michael Taylor (Helion)
The winner and two runners-up in each category will be drawn from the above shortlists. The results will be announced on 26 April 2023 at the Society's Annual General Meeting at the National Army Museum, which also co-sponsors the prizes.
