SAHR Centenary Dinner

Friday 12th November 2021

The Society's centenary celebrations culminated in a dinner at the Army & Navy Club on Friday 12 November 2021, attended by more than thirty members and friends of the SAHR.

The evening began at 18.30 with an illuminating talk from the most recent winner of the Templer Medal, Professor Daniel Todman, about his award-winning book Britain’s War: A New World 1942-1947. Professor Todman outlined key developments in Second World War studies, described the genesis of his own two-volume history, and highlighted key themes he hoped will be explored in the future.

The talk was followed by a Q&A session and a lively drinks reception, with a three-course dinner beginning at 20.00. The Society's president, Lieutenant-General Sir Barney White-Spunner KCB, CBE, read out a message from our Patron, HRH The Duke of Kent. A toast was offered to the Society's second century, which, judging by the vibrant programme of events held in our centenary year, has got off to a very promising start.
