SAHR presents Templer Medal to Dr Jonathan Fennell
Sunday 18th October 2020
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Society for Army Historical Research has of course been unable to stage the usual awards ceremony for the 2019 Templer Medal prize-winners. However, since our winner Dr Jonathan Fennell, author of Fighting the People’s War: The British and Commonwealth Armies and the Second World War, was “absolutely dying” to get his hands on the Medal, Chair of Judges Dr John Peaty organised a private awards ceremony. Dr Fennell related:
“I was deeply thrilled and honoured to receive the Templer Medal from John Peaty in early October. John very kindly welcomed Anna (my wife) and me in the garden of his home. We shared a very pleasant hour together. John spoiled us with a lovely cup of tea and biscuits and we discussed the state of the field and our hopes for the future of scholarship on the history of the British Army. There may not have been much pomp and ceremony, but receiving the Medal with Anna by my side was a moment I’ll never forget. These are the days dreams are made of!”
We hope to organise a virtual Templer Lecture next month so that our winner can speak to the membership about his work and research. Further details will be announced when confirmed.
