Digital Subscriptions For Overseas Private Members

In light of significant increases in international postage rates since July 2020, Council has determined that overseas private members should be offered a digital-only subscription, including an electronic version of the quarterly Journal, as an alternative to receiving our traditional, printed, Journal by mail.

Eligibility

This Digital Subscription is available only to overseas private members of the Society.* A private, overseas, member is an individual member whose address of record is outside the UK.

Digital Subscription Cost

£30.00 or US$ 42.00 p.a.

Effective Date

1st January 2022, for subscription year 2022.

The Electronic Journal

The electronic Journal is formatted as a digital FlippingBook and is viewed in a web browser on a Mac or Windows desktop/laptop computer, or an iOS/Android phone or tablet. It looks exactly like the printed Journal, with pages that can be turned backwards and forwards. It is possible to zoom in and out on text and images, search text, and follow hyperlinks.

The electronic Journal is published at the same time as the printed Journal and its content is exactly the same as for the printed Journal.

System Requirements

Digital-only subscribers must have a valid email address in their Membership record to enable the identification and authorization protocol to access the FlippingBook Journal on the host website.

The computer or device used to read the electronic Journal must be connected to the internet – the electronic Journal cannot be accessed off-line. Users should be running a recent version of their computer's or tablet's operating system and also an up-to-date version of their browser. For Windows computers, the user should be using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge. For Mac computers the user should be using Apple Safari.

For iOS devices (Apple iPad & iPhone), the user should be using Apple Safari. Android mobile device users should be using Google Chrome or the Android Browser.

Other browsers or older versions may work, but the FlippingBook developer creates files to be viewed on recent versions of the operating systems/browsers, to allow for the inclusion of new features, better performance and better security, as these come available.

Electronic Journal Access

Digital Subscribers will receive an email from FlippingBook Cloud (noreply@cld.bz) with a unique password for accessing electronic issues of the Journal. The username is the member’s email address held in the SAHR records. That is followed by an email from flippingbook@henryling.co.uk with an invitation to view the issue that has just been published. For subsequent issues, emails are sent from flippingbook@henryling.co.uk advising that a new issue is available to view. The member’s password remains the same to access all issues, unless he/she changes it.

To ensure Digital Subscriber’s receive this continuing information, members should add the following email addresses to their safe/approved sender or whitelist feature in his/her email software application. These are, noreply@cld.bz, flippingbook@henryling.co.uk, and noreply@flippingbook.com

When the invitation email to view a Journal online is received, members should click the J-SAHR cover image to open the publication. If not already logged-in to FlippingBook, the member will need to enter his/her email address and password.

The electronic Journal can be accessed from multiple devices, by the member using his/her email address and password.

Library

Electronic Journals will be maintained in FlippingBook for two subscription years or until they become available in our digital archive of Journals held in JSTOR, whichever is the later. To learn more about JSTOR, please click here.

Restrictions

Content in the electronic Journal cannot be selected, copied or printed.

If a Digital Subscriber decides during his/her subscription year that he/she does not like the electronic Journal, he/she cannot revert to the printed version mid-year, because sufficient spares are unlikely to have been produced to accommodate such reversion. The member can, of course, revert to the printed version at the beginning of the next subscription year.

Try before you Buy

The Winter 2021 Journal has been set up as an example of the electronic Journal. All eligible overseas members have been sent an invitation to test this electronic Journal, to inform their subscription selection for 2022.
